And presenting it or a terse version of it prominently on the main page

Can you guys tell me if this resonates? Help me wordsmith or blow it up:

“discussing broken and effective social systems and how we make things better, on a website that won’t monetize and become a broken social system”

The idea resonates with me, but not the words. Maybe "discussing how to act on the best ideas for de-enshitiffying important systems" (if you want to lean into Doctorow)

Love this idea of a vision statement. I'm going to get a little picky and suggest that we have both a vision statement and a mission statement, as one begets the other.

To clarify the difference between these 2 types of statements:

A vision statement describes the desired future state that a group envisions. It answers the question: "How would our world look different and better than it does now?"

A mission statement describes the actions the group will take to achieve that vision. It answers the question: "What do we do to move closer to achieving our vision?"

With that in mind and to kickstart the group creation of these statements, here are my initial stabs at them, based on what I've read on this site recently:

Vision Statement: We envision a world in which digital platforms are the accelerator for open, human-based social systems that exist to enrich us with new ways of thinking and acting.

Mission Statement: We discuss issues and kick around solutions to problems we see in society, and then take coordinated actions that may be small yet are always mighty, so that we make our world more unshittified.

I know I'm missing the mark on both of these statements, so everyone, please take it from here!

Nice! I’ll have to dwell on these a bit. My gut response @CvilleKelly is that the proposed mission is good but maybe a bit broad, and possibly the vision too but less so, because the vision SHOULD be more broad.

However, an alternative might be to have an immediate mission as well? Like the immediate mission, if not the mission, currently might be “produce and distribute materials making it easier for people to deshittify their lives”

I was thinking we could start pinning a weekly goal thread with the current goal. Like right now we can work on a graphic that shows “small ways to uns***ify Christmas shopping while keeping your sanity intact” and show people how to avoid lining Amazons pockets, etc.
